During the Covid-19 pandemic we here at William Penn Care Center are doing what needs to be done to bring joy, peace of mind, and comforting thoughts to not only to our residents but to their family members as well.
Wow, technology! FaceTime, Messenger, video chats, etc. It certainly is a new day for many of our residents and some of their family members. Once again our staff has risen to the occasion to ensure our residents have a great quality of life given the pandemic experience/situation. Relationships are important – and with social distancing being required by the law, how to keep and maintain close relationships between residents and their family members could have been a challenge.
It truly has been heart touching to us, as I am sure it is for all of you as well, seeing our residents and family members faces light up when they see each other via FaceTime, Messenger, photos posted on Facebook and/or sent via email, or hear joy in their voices as they talk to each other on the phone.
We have seen family members outside of their loved one’s window, videos being made from windows by family members, walked past a resident’s room to hear music being played on speaker phone just because it is a way of connecting with that person (and that is what was done during their visits when visiting was permitted). We have truly witnessed a variety of safe ways to keep relationships active – in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic.
We here at William Penn Care Center have also been privileged to experience many acts of kindness from the community such as greeting cards being sent to our residents by schools, church groups, and random people. Our staff has been provided lunches by different businesses, homemade facemasks are being donated, which just goes to show how supportive the community is of William Penn and its residents.
So, take heart, never give up, keep the faith, continue to rise to the occasion. We make a difference to many. Stay strong – you are important! Continue to let your light shine! You matter.
The recent outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) has introduced new challenges to all of our lives, but no one has been impacted more than our residents and their families. With facilities on lockdown, families had had a really hard time reaching out to their loved ones in such uncertain times.
In an effort to combat this problem, we have introduced the new Stay Connected Program – a website feature that allows friends and family to send text, photos, and/or video calls to residents at each facility.
While it sounds like a simple concept, the logistics behind this program have required a massive team effort between employees, and especially the Activities Directors of each building. They’ve done a fantastic job and helped process nearly 75 submissions in the first week alone!
Being able to keep our residents connected with their loved ones is invaluable and has allowed us to make the most of this situation. Thank you to the employees that have made this possible – your efforts mean more to our residents and their families than you could imagine!
